We are in San Gil, the adventure tourism capital of Colombia. White-water rafting, abseiling, bungee jumping and para-gliding are just a few of the adrenalin rushes on offer. And also extreme hill-driving, as the town is perched on the steepest roads I've ever seen. Better make sure we don't forget anything in the hostel when we stroll into town....
But for me the current mind challenge is not to scratch the huge welts on my legs. I find my hand sneaking down, nails beared at any idle moment. They are the produce of a lovely afternoon spent yesterday by waterfalls just outside the town. It was idyllic- swimming, pic-nicking on exotic fruit that I've never seen elsewhere, picking mandarins straight from the trees and being bitten by small black insects who sneakily don't cause any pain when they bite, so you can't catch them at it.
Mind control. And hand control. That's what I need. Or something to distract me. I'm hoping the para-gliding we've got booked for this afternoon over the national park might do the trick.
